It’s been more than a month since my phone died. I had a relatively unpleasant experience with one shop that offered to repair it where the shopkeeper was just super rude towards me. In my saga to get a replacement, I was yelled at by said shopkeeper who wasn’t wearing a mask at the time and then he tried to swindle me out of my money with repairs that would have cost me around 250€, which is less than buying a new phone. It’d be “as good as new”. Yeah Nah. I reported them later to the customer protection thingy here in Germany… mostly because of the mask thing but also because of the potential scam that he was trying to pull. Either way, Saturn mentioned that the circuit board is broken and that my data can’t be recovered. My phone wouldn’t be able to be saved but I could get a replacement instead. Hence, my uncle ordered a new phone and alas, I realise: Technology is weird.
I mean, what’s weird is maybe me and not the phone itself. I actually like the new phone. Sure, it’s huge (a Poco F3 or something like that?) and it has no earphone jack… and it uses USB-C instead of the cables that I had over here but overall, it’s a nice phone really. I like a lot of the features it has and how much space there is. On top of that the camera is nice and it’s quite fast, allowing me to actually install mobile games on there without having to uninstall stuff like Twitch or Twitter from my phone.
I actually did start up My Hero Academia: Strongest Hero already and I’m surprised at how pretty and modern it looks. I mean, I used to run Honkai 3rd Impact on my old phone but it would constantly overheat and stuff and the battery would get drained super fast. My new phone runs it quite smoothly without getting too hot and I have yet to get to the actual point where I could write about the game. I mean, I’m a huge MHA fan and Stingite got me intrigued here.
Speaking of which… I may actually do mobile reviews now? I mean, some apps don’t work properly on the phone for whatever reason but that’s fine, I guess. I’ve felt bad for rejecting mobile review requests in the past but I’d imagine that it’s possible now since I don’t have to uninstall apps to install new ones now. I have a lot of space on my phone and it doesn’t overheat and the screenshot function works quite well but I’ll probably resort to press kits still… Looking forward to some of the Indie Titles I’ve missed in the past!
And it’s nice to have a phone again… Mostly because I can now call my parents without having to contact my flatmate or girlfriend first and without having to ask them if they can lend me their phone for a call, etc. – which was very roundabout and annoying, essentially. In a way, I’m also glad because – while I can navigate myself to places (when in doubt by asking around) – I’ll have a Plan B or some way of finding home if I ever get lost again… and if there’s an emergency, people will now be able to reach me and I’ll be able to call an ambulance as well if something happens. In the end, it’s important to have a phone, even though I’ve become too dependant on it. I will miss the quiet I had from messages and e-mails and stuff and it’s kinda annoying to get all the newstickers again for Covid and whatever, which affects my mental health but until I figure out how to deactive those, I’ll just have to bear with it. I’m sure I can handle it.
Oh, at last, in lieu with not wanting to depend on the phone too much, I’ll probably start using my address book more often again… like my physical one. I have one here that I haven’t used in a while and I will have to update my phone numbers, mail addresses and stuff… but overall, really looking forward to using it again, just in case. I mean if my phone’s battery is empty, I won’t be able to call anyone as I don’t know any of their phone numbers, right? So,… address book!
Either way, this was my quick little update on the phone situation and potential mobile game reviews. A lot of Indie Devs start out by programming mobile games and while I don’t love gacha games like Raid or AFK that falsely advertise their games as immersive or innovative when it’s really just mediocre at best in the case of Raid or just an idle game in the case of AFK, I wanna give other titles a chance and hope for the best. I mean, AFK was kinda fun actually but I just hate how it’s being advertised when the actual product is… that. Does that make sense? I believe it does. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this post!
