Blaugust 2023 is nigh!

Today I wanted to talk about the upcoming event of Blaugust. Huzzah!

Every year, bloggers from all over the world come together to participate in a marathon of sorts where the goal is to post as much as possible throughout the month of August, like a challenge of sorts.

There are awards for the participants at the end as well based on how much they posted… but overall, it’s just an attempt at revitalizing the blogosphere, gathering new talents, having people try themselves at it again or for the first time, and just showcasing the broader community

It’s a blessing for the blog roll, one could say.

Blaugust is an event hosted by Bel from Aggronaut/Aggrochat. In this post, Belghast talks about the event’s whats, whys and hows, and links to the Sign-Up Form and Discord Server. All the important stuff can be found over there.

Go check out his post!

Note: I originally planned on writing a limerick for this post but it just kinda sucked, so I didn’t, after all… Yay.

Why Blaugust?

Bel sort of brought this to life at one point and I’d recommend checking out his post.

For me, Blaugust is about having fun. There is a prompt list and themed weeks and stuff that you can abide by if you want to but nobody forces you to use those. They’re not super strict guidelines but are just there for inspiration, so don’t feel restricted by them.

Rather, enjoy the ride, try things out, get to know people, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask questions in the discord or hit me up on there. We don’t bite. :)

Again, for all the information, Bel’s posts are great!

In my post, I wanted to talk about my personal plans and stuff.

What are my personal goals? What do I want to accomplish this month? etc.

So, if you are new here: Hi, I’m Magi.

I use he/they pronouns, write about games (technically) and other topics that interest me, and I live in Germany.

I’m a struggling queer university student aiming to become a teacher, and I have way too many opinions and thoughts and whatnot.

I used to do Kendo and some other martial arts. I used to be in a Drama club for 9+ years.

Nowadays, I do this here, I read and bake a lot, I love to cook, I play video games, I stream on Twitch, and I’m part of our university’s debate club as well as our literature magazine here. Also, I may soon get involved in university politics, lol.

This is Indiecator. The C isn’t capitalized.

The other day, this blog turned four years old but I didn’t have time to write a post about it… and I also didn’t really know what to write about.

Maybe just stats? That’d be quite boring, wouldn’t it? Also, I’d jinx stuff and also it could feel like bragging even though this is nothing compared to other bloggers…

Instead, I just haven’t got any plans for a four-year-anniversary post. Yet, at least. Maybe during Blaugust…?

More than that, Indiecator is my personal passion project where I write about things I’m interested in.

I write reviews, share my thoughts on all sorts of topics, and sometimes I write a rather long commentary-style post on some political stuff. Yay.

So, new year, new Blaugust.

I started blogging in July of 2019. I stabbed myself in the hand and was impaired in what I could and couldn’t do, so I ended up starting a blog again… I previously had a blog before but I only posted three reviews on there and then I didn’t have any more time… so, now in July of 2019, I figured it’d be a good time to start blogging again. Yay.

And then Blaugust happened and I got the Rainbow badge for posting daily for all of the month… and in the following years, I did the same. In one year, I posted around 45-odd posts, even.

Blaugust, to me, is a challenge of sorts.

It isn’t necessarily about getting to the goal but rather about testing limits and building a habit. Like, instead of focusing on hitting daily posts for a whole month, one could try to go for weekly posts or less frequent posts, figure out stuff, get inspired, riff off of others, and basically vibe with the community.

In one year, I tried to see if I could post twice every day, after all, I was blogging daily for quite a while… and this year I wanna see if I can write a lot of reviews.

I won’t set a specific goal. I won’t pretend that I’ll be able to hit 31 reviews in 31 days… instead, I just wanna hit a threshold rather than a certain threshold. I won’t specify it but rather am interested in where the limit is.

I love writing reviews, after all, and I wanna see if I can get back into the groove again. I kinda lost it, after all, time to win it back, eh?

Something I will have to figure out is when I will be able to write the scheduled posts that I wanna do. I will be on vacation near the end of the month and I won’t be able to write during that time with unreliable internet access and me visiting lots of relatives… so, scheduled posts is the plan, I’ll figure out topics later!

For other people, Blaugust is a good reason to start a blog in the first place or to try to get back into it again. It’s a nice excuse to join Discord and share pet pics (“pet tax”) and it’s a great way to make some friends.

So, if you are interested in writing about anything and everything, join us!
