So, this morning I took a plane ride from Dortmund to Skopje from where I was picked up and we drove to Kosovo.
And I completely forgot how terrifying planes are.
Note: I wrote this on my phone, so pardon any typos or weird sentences. I’m not good at typing on my phone, haha.
I get anxiety from public transport, as is, but I completely forgot how bad planes are for me, especially as my last plane ride was in 2019 when I visited the UK for the very first time, meeting up with online friends and stuff.
Anyhow, initially, I didn’t find it all that bad. My long legs were squished in tightly between my seat and the seat in front of me. It was noisy and the plane was packed full with mostly Albanians, interestingly enough.
When the plane started moving, it wasn’t that bad. I didn’t feel any fear or anxiety. It seemed kind of comfortable and cool actually…
But then we got to the runway. The plane’s turbines started blasting my ears off and we suddenly accelerated beyond my comfort zones. The plane starts moving, eventually leaving the ground and I felt my heart beating practically out of my chest.

I had a hard time breathing and tried to find some solace in a manga I downloaded onto my phone – perhaps one of the most depressing works out there, Oyasumi Punpun.
Well, it didn’t work.
Deep breathes, calm thoughts, happy places; nothing. Just pure dread, especially when the turbulences started.
Luckily, though, I didn’t sleep last night… At all… Out of fear that I’d miss my train and flight. I got to nap in the least comfortable position for a solid hour after an hour of my panic attack.
I’m just glad I got out of that anxiety machine.
It’s not even that I’m afraid of something going awry or some sort of accident happening. It’s just that being in a plane and leaving the ground just really maxes out my agarophobia.
I feel like I can’t breathe, my hearts beats way too fast, and my body goes from feeling cold to feeling hot in mere seconds.
Add to that that you’re seated next to strangers and that the announcer was barely audible when they explained what to do in the case of an emergency.
I just really hate flights, I guess and next Saturday, I’ll have to repeat this again.
