Hot Weather Ramblings

So, in light of me publishing drafts I’ve had amassed over the years to get somewhat close to the 31 posts for Blaugust, I decided to write something on this topic. My notes that I had in here were “it’s too hot to write” and… I agree.

Anyway, I have literally no other notes here, so I just wanted to ramble a bit about hot weather.

For starters, I do think that I have a pretty high tolerance for hot weather and that’s mainly due to my parents being from Kosovo. We used to go there yearly but with exam season, I sadly didn’t make it this year and the years prior. Last year, I got to visit my distant relatives for a week which was nice but sadly I’m unsure if I can make it this time around, especially with the new semester being so close again…

That said, I remember one time experiencing 46°C (that’s 114,8°F for the people with the weird units) and deciding to visit my grand uncle. His house wasn’t far away, only 15 minutes by foot. Well… it took me a full hour to get there since I frequently had to take a break to remove the sweat from my glasses. It was everywhere… I could feel the evaporated sweat leaving a layer of salt on my skin the more I struggled to move on and eventually I ended up arriving, had some cold well water and enjoyed some cucumbers from my grand-uncle’s farm.

Ever since I experienced that incredibly hot day, I’ve been okay with 30+°C weather because it’s not actually that hot. That said, humidity gets to me. It’s terrible when your clothes stick to your skin and when the air feels so stuffy but you can’t open the window because the heat will get inside even more.

And in recent years, I’ve lived directly under the room with no AC or anything of the sorts… it’s terrible.

You’d think that you’d develop a tolerance for it but sadly it gets cooler whenever you’re kinda used to the heat and it gets hotter before you could actually enjoy the cool weather. The worst part about my current apartment is that the roof-windows don’t allow me to open the windows fully when it’s raining because the water will get in and damage the floors… but just having them slightly open won’t let the air circulate enough either.

And thus, I struggle on, trying to make it through summer, my motivation to be productive dying every single day… Sleeping on the cool floor has been great for my sleep quality but bad for my back. I’m looking forward to autumn.
