So, for a long time, I struggled with my self-esteem and how I view myself but then it got better and it had to do with gaining weight because I was finally back to a “healthy” weight.
Now, it sounds stupid, obviously, and I’m not advocating for gaining or losing weight. I’m no doctor, so I just know that people should talk to doctors about dietary stuff and then see what they have to say about it. If you’re weighing too much, it often is a matter of losing weight. If you’re weighing too little, it often is a matter of gaining weight. You know, it’s that “too” that is important there.
More importantly, if you feel comfortable in your skin and if you aren’t facing any health issues because of your diet or weight, then that’s perfectly fine.
Anyway, for me, I’m 196cm tall or 6’4… and I used to weigh 95kg which was a healthy weight and I looked fine but then I lost 20kg during my A-levels looking a lot like a skeleton at the end there. I was shocked when I saw pictures of myself from before and after the A-levels… in fact, I needed to suddenly gain weight to fit into my prom suit again. That was six years ago.

During the past six years, I tried to gain weight again and managed to go from 75kg to 87kg in that time. That’s a success. Well, last month I weighed myself again and I seem to have dropped to 82kg again which is still okay but not great. My arms look thinner, my ribs are showing, and like, just in general, I don’t feel great about it. My full beard helps with not looking too thin in the facial region.
For me, gaining weight is an issue. I’m underweight right now and my body’s metabolism doesn’t appear to slow down just yet. I hope it does so eventually. I can’t eat too much anymore and often end up feeling sluggish after I’ve eaten a normal portion. It’s not great.
Add to that the cost of living crisis which increased the food prices considerably over the years and I’m just struggling to make ends meet as is. Finding a job is difficult, I’ve applied for some financial help the other day and hope it gets approved.
Anyhow, I’ve heard that eating “less” more often is better than eating “a lot” once or twice a day, so I’m now trying to get into a rhythm with meals to make sure that I eat at least three times a day.
Similarly, I’m also trying to figure out how to change my diet. I already eat lots of carbs… I mean, I eat bread, rice, pasta or potatoes with practically every meal, so I should have that covered. It’s just a matter of putting it more into practice and paying attention to the fats, and those other categories so that I can gain weight more healthily. Apparently eating nuts between meals is good, so I’ll have to pay attention to that, too, and… yeah.
I do also work out, kinda. I do jog a lot or rather – I try to start my day with it. Perhaps I’ll have to do smaller rounds to build up stamina but not burn too many calories.
I’ll have to figure things out, I guess, because the way I view myself when I’m this thin isn’t amazing and it’s really something I’ve been struggling for ages with. I hope this post helps me keep myself accountable.
