So, I’ve been playing Pokémon TCG Pocket for quite a while now and have steadily managed to complete a lot of the really rare cards, only really missing about 21 cards.
From the Charizard pack, I’m missing Mewoth, Kangaskhan, Exeggutor, Charizard ex (the four-diamond one), Poliwrath, Alakazam, Primeape, Machamp, Kabutops and Melmetal. In the Pikachu pack, I’m only missing Gyarados, Raichu, Jolteon, Golem and Blastoise ex (the four-diamond one). In the Mewtwo pack, I’m only missing Pidgeot, Venusaur, Eelektross, Gengar, Mewtwo and Marowak ex.
Now, as someone who likes to collect things, I’m really trying to get that genetic apex deck completed but I’ve realised that opening packs isn’t all that efficient. Crafting is even worse. I recently crafted Vileplume because I haven’t seen ‘er at all yet in any packs I’ve opened… but then I just got her today in a Charizard pack. And then again in another. Crafting is terrible.
So, Wonder Picks it is… but with the new expansion and stuff, people are naturally going to open primarily the Mew booster pack… and as a result, finding Genetic Apex Wonder Picks is fucking atrocious.
Mysterious Island here, mysterious island there,
ain’t that mysterious after all if I can see it everywhere.
That said, I think it’s gonna impossible to get all the Genetic Apex cards this way, so I narrowed down my goals. I don’t need to complete the whole expansion at the moment. Instead… I’ll aim to just complete my Kanto Deck, meaning only Pokémon from the very first generation aka the first 150 Pokémon.
By completing the Kanto Dex, I’ll be able to get access to the Mew Immersion card. It’s cute. I want it.

Also, you cannot draw it from a pack or anything. To do this, I’ll have to get all the Kanto Pokémon which narrows down the list a bunch since ex cards count as the same Pokémon, essentially. As a result, I already have Charizard and Charizard ex (the immersion card) but they count as the same card. Similarly, I may be missing the normal Mewtwo but I do have the immersion one, the crown one, the golden star ones, various ex versions, etc. – so I won’t need to draw that one.
Anyhow, this narrows down the list a fair bit. I’ll only need to collect:
From the Charizard Pack:
- Alakazam
- Meowth
- Kabutops
- Poliwrath
- Machamp
- Primeape
- Kangaskhan
From the Pikachu Pack:
- Golem
- Gyarados
- Jolteon
From the Mewtwo Pack:
- Pidgeot
Promo Cards do not count towards dex completion, btw, which is why all the Meowth cards from events, promo packs and chansey picks do not actually count.

As you might be able to tell, I need only seven cards in the Charizard pack, so I’m opening those up like mad since I can’t get any wonder picks at the moment for the expansion. Opening Mewtwo packs is just not worth it for the one Pidgeot, so I’ll either have to wait for it to appear in the wonder pick or wait for trading to be implemented. And then there’s the Pikachu packs. My least-opened pack which is missing the least amount of cards and where I only need three Pokémon.
I think there’s a good chance that Gyarados, Golem and Jolteon might appear in Wonder Picks still from time to time since they’re rarer and they bring up the wonder pick value, so I’ll just have to wait and see until I get all the Charizard pack cards there.
Somehow being lucky with my draws made me unlucky since I’m only missing common cards that cost 150+ to be crafted. Sheesh.
Anyway, 1191768239388318 is my friend code if you wanna add me.
Since I’m F2P only, I’ve been setting up binders and display boards and stuff to get those store credits for the hour glasses. It’s a grind. But I also love setting up binders like that. It’s cute. Aside from that, all else I can do is grind the PvE fights until I get enough resources, I guess. I also haven’t seen any rare packs so the chance is pretty high that I can get one of those which would be bad for me since I don’t need any rare cards right now. I just gotta get those few Kanto cards there… Hmm…
If you have any suggestions, let me know!
