Today is my WordPress anniversary. I first signed up on WordPress nine years ago and started writing reviews on a small blog titled “Magi’s Indiekativ”. At the time, I was still in school, getting ready for my A-Levels, and as the guy in our friend group with the most games owned and the biggest passion for indie games, I just wrote away, recommending titles and wondering how things go, before eventually running out of free time since A-levels were a thing.
Then six years ago (on July 19th, 2019, to be precise), Indiecator came to live. This very blog here has outlived my longest relationship and all sorts of other passion projects and hobbies. Back then, I looked online for blogging communities and randomly stumbled across the Blaugust discord server where people were preparing for an event called “Blaugust” while I was trying to recover from a stab wound in my hand.
The people on the Blaugust discord server were some of the most welcoming folks I’ve met in ages. They didn’t judge or anything. They gave me great advice that still influences me to this very day, and I made some fantastic friends through them and got to learn so much.
And now… it’s time for another year of Blaugust, a yearly celebration of blogging values that inspires new people to pick up the mantle and get into this wonderful hobby and that motivates veterans to dust off their blogs and see if they wanna get back into it.
At its heart, Blaugust has been about celebration of content creation on a regular schedule. The original challenge was to post daily for all of Blaugust or achieve 31 posts within 31 days throughout August and the week after. Newbies receive a special award, and folks who manage to publish 5/15/25/31 posts receive a special reward.
12 Years of Blaugust
Usually, it’s Belghast from Aggronaut who is typically organising the event, but he’s taking a well-deserved break from the blogosphere at the moment due to personal reasons, which is why many different Blaugust veterans (including me) have decided to not just “help” with the event but to pick up the organizer mantle and make sure to carry on the torch this year!
As such,…
- Wilhelm from TAGN has prepared some wonderful graphics already.
- Krikket from NGT wrote a fantastic blog post right here about the event, providing all the important information. Others have decided to signal boost it and share the news on their blogs. If you’d like to help us, feel free to write about the event and share the news with your readers and friends alike.
- The Media Kit on Aggronaut for this year has also been updated by Bel. You can find all the graphics and all the important links over there!
And well, you’re reading your post, eh? Blogging has become one of my favourite past times, a great way for me to express the machinations of my inner mind, a way for me to heal, and a way to make great friends and connect to others. I highly recommend it.

Also, join our Discord server if you haven’t yet.
Obviously, you don’t have to participate in it wholly for the challenge. You don’t even need to post more than once. The real challenge, honestly, is to just post anything and get started and get involved if that makes sense. The only way to lose is to not play, essentially, and as such, come hang out with us on the discord server, connect with others, share what you’re working on, and discover the world of blogging!
There are many folks here who will blog about video games but you don’t have to do that. We’ve got book bloggers, people writing about sports, about their garden, food, travel, and more. There are people sharing their thoughts on happenings in the world, and others expressing their opinions on other matters. There are a lot of different kinds of blogs, and you can just share whatever you like in any length, shape or form on the blog. As long as you wrote it, that’s all that matters!
Join us!
I’m really hyped :3
