Hey, there. I wrote this post the other day about identity and nationality because it was in the drafts for incredibly long but it didn’t really work as an introduction, of course, because it wasn’t meant to be one. So, today, I wanted to write an introduction post… as I do every year for Blaugust.
So, hi, I’m Dan or Magi. Neither of those is my real name. I’m 26 years old. I like Indie Games a lot, love cooking and Drama, I study English Studies and Philosophy at university with the aim of becoming a teacher, and I really enjoy writing, going out and drawing.
I stream on Twitch. Over there, I try to create a comfortable environment free of toxicity or bigotry where people can find some welcome respite in an otherwise chaotic world. I showcase indie games over there, do art streams, a lot of yapping, and we’re currently playing through a bunch of different games, typically as first/blind playthroughs. At the time of writing this, we’re finishing up Prey (Finale on August 17th) and also playing through Final Fantasy 7 – which I haven’t seen or played at all yet, believe it or not.
Beyond that, I write on here about indie games, socio-critical stuff and sometimes about other thoughts and bits and bops. If you’re into that, feel free to come along. It’s my personal blog, so I just write about whatever I care about at the time, so, it’s not actual journalism or whatever. Just me trying to make myself heard.
Currently, I work at an English pub that has a lot of craft beers and the like in a fridge with a rotating selection. Since I’m relatively new to the job and since I don’t know too much about beers (I come from a wine region, y’know?), I’ve made it a habit to frequently go out there and try some of these craft beers.
My thoughts on them can be found in a bunch of different “beer threads” over on BlueSky, so if you’re looking for recommendations on IPAs, pale and brown ales, ciders, stouts and other beers, that might be a good place to go to.
I love Drama and read through various plays regularly. I used to be in a few different theatre groups and productions, have nearly a decade of experience in the field both as a writer and actor, and really love imagining what weird and fun things one could do with classic plays, not that I will since I’m not active at the moment.
And well, I also read a lot of horror and science fiction, short stories and novellas, poetry, and other odd stuff. My favourite contemporary author is Patrick Süskind who has a very distinct style and whose works are always a treat to read. I need to find more time to read – but between the required reading for university, my work shifts, house chores, streaming and blogging, I kind of have a hard time finding the time. As such, I tend to just grab a book with me for long train rides and the like.
Also, I suck at writing introductions. One might think that after writing six (including this one), one might get better at a skill, but I really am struggling here, so if anything’s missing, feel free to just ask questions. :)
