Shinies for Good Pokémon Charity Event Raises Funds for the American Immigration Council on Twitch

Shiny-Hunting types that are effective against ICE goes so hard.

Twitch streamers and Pokémon fans are coming together for Shinies for Good, a week-long charity fundraising event benefiting the American Immigration Council from February 10th through February 16th.

The deployment of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents across the United States has seen many tragedies and atrocities committed against the American people.

From overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, solitary confinement practices, and inadequate medical care in their detention centers to many thousands of children being separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to the deportation of long-term residents and the detention of asylum seekers, to the various deaths and injuries caused by agents without any proper background checks or trainings in place, the controversies surrounding ICE appear to just pile up and not stop.

For many advocates and observers, these actions raise serious questions about ICE’s legitimacy. I’d even go as far as to say that the way things are going is tearing apart the very ideals that America was built upon, like the equal treatment under law, the “melting pot”, and the idea that the U.S. is a place of refuge and opportunity.

The Shinies for Good charity fundraiser aims to support the American Immigration Council, which does wonderful work against these malpractices.

This campaign is part celebration, part call to action. Viewers can donate during streams, spread the word, and cheer on hunters as they chase some of the rarest Pokémon out there for a genuinely important mission… and they’re all Pokémon that are super effective against ICE.

Why the American Immigration Council?

The American Immigration Council defends immigrant rights by shaping humane and fair immigration policy, using the power of litigation, research, and storytelling to challenge injustice and drive change.

Supporting the campaign lets them…

  • defend immigrant rights in court and hold the government accountable.
  • support immigrants in ICE/DHS detention and provide pro bono legal services.
  • conduct and promote timely research and analyses that drive policy change and fight misinformation, educating both policymakers and the public on immigration issues.
  • mobilise communities and volunteers to support immigrants in detention through their Immigration Justice Campaign.
  • celebrate immigrant contributions and shift public narratives through powerful program delivery.

You can learn more about their impact over here and in the video below.

Shinies for Good aims to support this work by mobilising a passionate online community and turning entertainment into tangible impact.
