So, as of late, more and more people have asked me… and no, my name is not a Dream reference. Honestly, I don’t know why but everything nowadays has to be a reference to something. People can’t seem to take a joke without overanalyzing it and I wanted to talk a little bit about that. For starters, I go by “MagiWasTaken” online and that’s because most of the time the username “Magi” really is taken. It’s literally in the name. That’s the joke. I don’t watch Dream but they go buy “dreamwastaken” on Twitch and Twitter, as far as I know, so “obviously”, every other person with “wastaken” in their name has to be a Dream stan. And similarly, I’ve seen other people with “was taken” in their name which is just playful and kinda witty and… honestly, it’s not really all that witty… People do it. If “MagiWasTaken” was taken already, I’d go for “MagiWasTaken2” or “MagiWasTakenToo”, not that much of a deal, to be fair. In that case, there’d probably be people out there that would ask what the “2” means in that case. Someone with a 99 in their name, probably is born in that year. Others with a 7 in there probably have a kid that is seven years old and they change their name every year to memorize their kid’s age. Yup, that’s gotta be it. And I find it weird that people overanalyze usernames of all things and overthink it so much to the point where it’s absurd. And well, the whole “was taken” thing was inspired by some League Streamer I used to watch. When I changed my username, I ended up going with that because honestly, I found it cute. I like it.
In other news, my sleep schedule was pretty fucked for the past week with me sleeping during the day and waking up at night. So, my ISP is still giving me trouble and I somehow noticed how my upload speed is a lot higher late at night, which is why I decided to maybe stream in the evening. Monday I was just exhausted in the evening, so I went to sleep early and woke up in the middle of the night. I was wide awake at that point, so I started up my stream and went on for a few hours before going to bed at 8 in the morning. It’s not optimal but it worked. I had fun playing Hitman for the first time without my first impressions being ruined by technical difficulties, DCs, and frame drops. It was lovely. I had a blast. Then on Tuesday, I slept during the day, ate some food and after I wrote my blog post for Wednesday, I streamed again at 2 in the morning… and hence, I properly have become nocturnal in the process. Yesterday, however, I decided against the day nap, staying up all day in the process. After 33 hours of being awake, I finally passed out in my bed at a normal time and woke up today at a reasonable time. While I miss streaming that late at night, I never thought it would go well if I extended that for more than a week. The “sleep at day, wake at night” thing is interesting but ultimately, I felt pretty bad after doing it for a few days in a row. Not getting sunlight is rough, especially when you wake up in the early evening and end up only seeing dark clouds – as it has been storming for the past days. I also look properly undead right now which is… on-brand? But not optimal.
And well, I don’t really have much to do anymore. I have one more exam left this semester as well as another in the next one. I am still studying for the next semesters, given that I don’t want to just forget everything I learned this past half year (and before that), so I’m actually still transcribing stuff and practising that here and there, and I try to think about how words would be pronounced in GenAm vs. RP or whether or not there’d be a difference at all. The point is, I’m not a fan of bulimic studying (aka memorize everything for a test and then forget about it immediately afterwards), so I should do my best to try to actually study instead of just letting it slide after the semester’s over. Also, since I have a bit more time now, I can actually go and do some health checkups again. I have to get two or three vaccines that I last got in 2012, for starters, but I also gotta go to the dentist at some point again as well as the neurologist. The neurologist, to be fair, has cancelled another appointment. In their e-mail, they said that they had a covid case there and… yeah, that sucks. But to be fair, I don’t know where else to go with my headaches.
Oh well.
