TSS – University and the Potato: I’ll sleep after this.

Honestly, I’m exhausted as of late… which is in part because of the fact that one of my classes requires a lot more “watching” than anticipated, meaning that instead of flying through literature or marking and summarising important sections, I’ll have to watch BBC documentaries on UK history as homework…

And that in itself is fine probably. I don’t really mind the topics, the way it’s presented, and the fact that this is “homework”… but it’s a real timesink, especially when you can’t increase the speed even more.

So, whereas one other class I’m taking takes an hour or two on that specific day of studying and preparation, my Cultural Studies Class takes more because there’s a lot of literature and a few videos to watch, each of which is somewhat lengthy. Again, can’t breeze through those and I’d much prefer a text to read through or even a transcript of the documentary. It’s something I basically have to do on the weekend… but I kinda need the weekend to study for other classes as well, so depending on the length, it gets annoying.

And well, I also now have to prepare a presentation on The Potato and other things in regard to the Great Irish Famine or the Myth of the Great Irish Famine. It will be tricky since I haven’t done anything with PowerPoint in ages. The actual talking, however, shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Frankly, I’m used to talking in front of people by now, thanks to my Drama experience and the Debate Club… and I learned a lot while trying to sell candy and roasted almonds at the Christmas Market in my hometown… and on top of that, blogging helps me structure content whereas streaming helps me with talking English for lengthy amounts of time.

I won’t be selling anything but being able to get the most important information across is important, I reckon, in order to make the presentation a success. At the same time, it will only be ten to twelve minutes long (+ questions), so I won’t need to keep the energy up quite as much as I do on streams, meaning that I can put more emphasis on my voice work and the way I talk, probably.

I’m sort of looking forward to this… but again, time and effort are a struggle. I’m not excited… but “looking forward to it” describes this feeling quite well. I wanna try and challenge myself a little with this presentation – and of course, my grade depends on it, right?

Anyway, today, I spent most of the day at the university and the library. I then ended up eating way too late, and had a huge migraine and I did play some Minecraft for a change of pace, sorta. I also went for a walk which helped with the migraine… or maybe the painkillers helped, who knows? And now that the post is done, I can get to sleep, finally. I’ll just have to pack my bag for tomorrow’s classes. Yay!
