So, as an extension of the blog, I’ve been meaning to upload YouTube content… but I failed. Mostly due to motivation.
Motivation is a fickle pickle, as probably nobody ever said, and for me, it’s difficult to stay motivated when I don’t see some sort of results.
For example, I started going to the Gym a while ago and the results I was seeing were that it was less painful and not as hard on me to do a full training session. My body’s metabolism is really fast, so I don’t gain weight nor muscles that fast but that’s fine… The results are that I’ve gotten stronger, essentially. So, I keep doing it.
Another example: Blogging. When you do stuff online, you often have stats. When the stats go up on for the Blog, I keep being motivated… by “up” I mean “more than 0” – so as long as someone out there reads and enjoys what I write, I’m happy and I’ll keep doing this. In reality, I’m also happy to reach more people. This has been a great year. Thank you so much.
This brings us to YouTube where I frankly didn’t really see any “results” and hence couldn’t be arsed to upload more. That’s obviously bad because the algorithm wants you to upload frequently… So if I don’t see results, I essentially prevent results. It’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Time to blind myself.
And I know that I’m essentially expecting the impossible here… I just figured that… YouTube works like WordPress. But it doesn’t.
One video, though, did really, really well… and that’s the RoR2 Mercenary Ethereal video I did… at the same time, though, a lot of it probably is not because of people on YouTube trying to find it but rather people finding my blog through google and then reading that post… followed by them watching the video which is embedded in that post (I believe?). Anyway, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I did well… I just did something.
So, what am I doing wrong?
- I’m not uploading frequently enough.
- I’m not promoting YouTube frequently enough.
- I have no idea how to do titles, thumbnails or tags in a way that works for YouTube’s users.
Will I work on those? Not anytime soon… buuuuuuuuuut….
I’ll start recording videos sometime soon just to get into the habit. It’s something I talked about on my stream a lot… but essentially, I’ll be visiting my parents over the holidays – aka Christmas until the 6th of January or so… and that means no streams and no “live” posts. Lots of scheduled stuff instead.
Hence, I figured that it may be nice for people to have a way to listen to my beautiful voice (jk jk) without me needing to be live.
And that’s where YouTube comes in… I’ll probably just upload me doing a few Roguelike runs in different games to YouTube in an attempt to provide some content for those in need of content. Hopefully that works out fine! The holiday season is rough for people.
