It’s that time of year again… it’s August! Well, Blaugust!
People who have been around my blog for a while might know that every year, ever since the creation of this site, I take part in an event called Blaugust (Blog+August). This event happens every year. I have participated in it since the creation of this site. It is a sort of blogging festival. This event is supposed to bring the community together. It aims to breathe some new life into the blogosphere. Additionally, it shines a light on new bloggers. It’s really darn cool.
If you wanna know more about the event itself, check out this wonderful post by Belghast from Aggronaut who is putting this event together every single year. He’s lovely! That post contains all the important information about the Whats, Hows and Whys… so, just read that.
I’ll talk today about…
- why I think you should join,
- what I plan to do this year,
- and other stuff!

Why join?
Blogging is pretty cool. You get to share your thoughts, create a platform for yourself, and be heard by dozens of folks out there, some of whom might have similar experiences and interests to you.
Personally, I often struggled with getting heard. Blogging helped me get heard. It’s also a fun hobby that I’ve been doing for the past five years (Jeez, it’s been that long, already! Also I forgot to publish a five-year-anniversary post. Oops.) which sadly has taken a step back as of late due to real life stuff. It happens.
And well, if you’re like me and you wanna share your interests and love for things or thoughts on matters of any kind, then Blaugust is perfect.
Wanna document your weird and funny, at times feral and disturbing, other times wholesome and calm dreams with others? Start a dream journal!
Wanna spread cold, hot and lukewarm takes on all sorts of topics that you wouldn’t discuss with friends necessarily (or that you also very much would share with friends)? Share them on your own personal blog!
Do you have a passion for books, games, handicrafts, cooking, gardening, nature, sports, politics, mental health, languages, or any other topic? Spread the word and tell others all about it!
You literally can do anything on a blog and personally, I think that it helps a ton with feeling productive and sleeping better (because of faux-productivity), it gets you in touch with a lot of cool folks all over the internet, and overall, it just seems like something nice to get into, really.
“But, Magi, I suck at writing! Nobody’s gonna want to read that!” – Well, dear reader, fret not… for I do, too, and people are reading my stuff, even when I don’t write posts. Look, some of my oldest posts have huge paragraphs. These huge paragraphs make it hard to push through the post. They contain many typos and wrong word usage. English is my third language. Overall, nobody cares. Most people will understand what you’re saying.
Don’t wanna write in English? Write in literally any language!
Blogging is pretty darn cool. Even the most niche of topics have the opportunity to foster community. They create friendships and bonds that last for ages (hypothetically). I’ve met some incredibly cool friends through blogging and I’m glad I got into it.
“But, Magi, what if I don’t like it?” – Well, then you just don’t blog after realising that you don’t. There’s literally no pressure. You only know if it’s gonna good or bad once you try it, so go for it. Shoot your shot. Setting up a blog for free is easy. You can choose WordPress, Tumblr, or Blogspot. There are many, many alternatives out there. You have literally nothing to lose by doing so. I think.

My plans this year!
My blog has seen better days… by which I mean the frequency of me writing posts. For a long time I wrote daily; nowadays, I don’t. Heck, getting more than two posts out per month is hard enough, as of late, mostly due to real life obligations, time constraints, other hobbies taking increasing amounts of time, my mental and physical health struggles, as well as just a general lack of motivation.
So, this year, I wanna change that. Or rather, ease myself into blogging again and find joy in sharing reviews on games I love.
Hence, I’ll aim for the 31/31 posts this year again but I also plan on uploading daily videos onto YouTube since I’ve been doing YouTube for a while now and it’s a lot of fun. :) On top of that, I’ll also stream stuff here and there, as per usual, and I just wanna see how well I can balance all of these hobbies in that time.
There will be a week when I’ll be away for a few days to visit my family… and I’ll also be at the Gamescom on the 22nd of August… as such, I’ll need to schedule uploads and posts accordingly. I’ll figure it out.
More than anything, I’m excited to do another “Blaugust Participant Appreciation Post” this year, and in fact, I’ll actually read through all the participants’ blogs this upcoming Saturday… live on Twitch… come hang out. (#sorrynotsorry for the plug)
But even if I don’t make it and even if I don’t get to publish 31 posts this month, that’s fine. No pressure. It’s about the fun and community anyway, so I’ll just take it slow, one step at a time, and focus on rekindling my passion for blogging, adding some fuel here and there or blowing or whatever one would do in this metaphor. I have no clue. It’s been ages since I last started a fire.
Anyway, really challenging myself this year, so look forward to stuff!
Other thoughts!
I’m really excited about this year’s event, especially after seeing how many new people are joining, and I’d love for bloggers (new and old) to join me after reading this post. So if you haven’t yet, check out Belghast’s post over here and the sign-up form right here.
Thanks for reading. Happy blogging!

Gamify blog writing. Every time you publish a post, reward yourself. And when you miss a post, self flagellate.

Good luck with uploading to YouTube daily. I’ve been doing it now for close to 2 years. I started out doing uploads every 2 days, then went to 4, now I’m doing 7 days a week. It’s fun and I enjoy it. Still trying to find out games work well for my page. So yeah good luck with YouTube.
