As mentioned previously, I’m away for about two weeks. There are plenty of posts scheduled for the next few days (that includes this one) and when you’re reading this, I’m most likely waiting for my next train because Deutsche Bahn kinda sucks. Whatever! I’ll be on my way today for about four hours to visit my parents for a week. We don’t celebrate Christmas or anything but maybe my mother will have a day off or something? More importantly, though, I get to see everyone again, hang out with my parents and siblings, and I’ll be able to eat delicious and nutritious food made by Momma Magi! I’ve been getting quite good at cooking but homecooked food still tastes the best and maybe I get to learn some new recipes or potentially cook for my parents for once? I feel like that’d be rad. I’ll also probably meet up with one friend of mine that I haven’t seen in a while at least once. I also want to visit my old boss and everyone at my old workplace just to see if they’re still alive and kicking. It’s gonna be quite rad. On the 29th, I’ll briefly return here to my flat again, only to pack my bags again. On the 30th, after all, I’ll visit my better half’s family in Munich (yes, more train rides!) and I’ll spend New Year’s with them over there which should be quite a lot of fun. I for one am really looking forward to getting to know them more and I’m excited to spend some time with my partner and her parents over there.
As far as blog posts go, I’ve scheduled a bunch of different posts for the days that I’m missing. For the most part. I’ve got a few days planned and ready and I’ll most likely write a few posts here and there at my parents’ while they’re at work. I mean, during that time I will be studying mostly since Winter Break means Exam Time but in the study breaks, I should be able to write a few nice posts to fill in the gaps! I actually have an idea of a game that I’d like to still review before the end of the year, btw, but I’m not sure if there is such a thing as “a right choice”.
And well, exams are gonna be rough. I’m mostly worried about my EPP class – English Phonetics and Phonology. I apparently make quite a few mistakes with final obstruent devoicing and even the English [aɪ] sound vs the German [ai] sound. These were things that I thought I had improved on but… guess not? Meanwhile, my articulation isn’t completely clean and I sometimes link words together unintentionally. On top of that, I use an “inappropriate strong form” from time to time as well as “other incorrect vowels/diphthongs” which is ominous as I have no clue what they’re referring to in those cases and as I’ll have to relisten to my audio recording over and over again until I get it. Furthermore, apparently, my pronunciation sounds “Australian” at times which apparently is an issue. So, I’ll have to see what I’m doing wrong when I say “stared”, “body” or “blurred” and then I’ll have to figure out how to actually pronounce it because apparently, doing it the Australian way is not good. I believe that my other exams will be rather easy. The EPP exam is what’s worrying me the most as I suck at transcriptions and as I’m extremely worried that I might fail the oral exam… Hence, I’ll try to get in touch with some people that studied English Studies for longer than me, in hopes to get some help after the break.
Everything else should be a breeze though and with enough practice, I should be able to memorize the most difficult transcriptions that might appear. Similarly, I’ll get some practice by transcribing short stories or even blog posts? Who knows! I’m looking forward to that sort of practical… practice… Yeah. It will be fun. It will be a few busy weeks, especially because the written portion of EPP is the earliest. The philosophy exams really are just about memorization while the other English Classes aren’t too worrisome just yet. Oh well.
How are you spending your time off if you have any off at all? Let me know! I for one will try to be able to relax a little bit in the next two weeks and even with exams coming up, I’ll try to enjoy the break as much as possible while also keeping up the studying. Meanwhile, I’d love to brainstorm some new ideas for the blogging and streaming stuff, especially considering that I’ll essentially be away for a whole two weeks from Twitch and partially from WordPress!
Cheers!
