Blaugust 2022 is nigh!

Where did the time go? It’s Mid July… and that means, it’s nearly August… and with August comes Blaugust – which is why I wanted to talk about this year’s Blaugust. If you don’t know what that is… don’t worry, I’ll explain that soon enough.

The important is: If you’re interested in blogging, if you’re already blogging or if you’re a blogger who hasn’t been active in a good while, this is your chance to join an awesome community, hang out with people, participate in a cool event and basically… have fun!

If you want to read up on everything in detail, make sure to check out Belghast’s post on it. Bel always puts a great amount of effort into organizing and planning these events and I highly recommend reading up on the event over there!

What is Blaugust?

The blogging community is nowhere near as large as it once was. Many of us have aged out of blogging with real-world responsibilities and others have just moved on to other time-consuming hobbies. Blaugust gives us a chance to infuse the community with a fresh lease on life as we court new bloggers to join the fray. Those of us who have been carrying the torch of blogging for decades now can sometimes lose hope as our blogroll loses a few voices each year. I personally find getting out and mingling with other bloggers to be a deeply beneficial thing when it comes to my own creative processes. We’ve also branched out to support others who do serialized content in any format, the focus being on regularly engaging with the creative process. The bustling Discord Community has helped to keep the energy up the other eleven months of the year.

What do you do at Blaugust?

Well, it all started as a challenge to blog as much as possible – with different amounts of posts resulting in different awards, from the Participation Award (At least 1 Post in August) to the Rainbow Blogger Award (31/31 Days). So, you write blog posts and connect with others in the community essentially.

There is no “winning” really. Rather, it’s about getting to know and connecting to others in the blogosphere, having fun, and basically participating in an event of sorts, titled #Blaugust2022.

On top of that, there is a whole Discord Community found over here, where you can share blog posts, read posts by others, chat with people and get help if you need help with something. There are a bunch of lovely mentors over there with an abundance of experience. On top of that, there are a lot of different bloggers present in that community from people who review games or play MMOs or check out books – and many others. It’s a pretty great place to be a part of!

Features!

This time around, Belghast prepared a lot of different new features that I’m quite excited about. A lot of these may help out with that hurdle of getting started or keeping up the motivation – but the most important thing is having fun, of course.

So, for instance, on top of the badges awarded at the end of the event, you can now earn “Achievements” or rather… Blaugchievements. These are just kinda fun and may help with getting in touch with others. Each comes with an “Xbox Live” themed image you may add to your blog if you want to!

On top of that, there are themed weeks that can help with finding topics to talk/write about. None of these are anything that you need to participate in, of course. Rather, it’s just a bit of help in case you’re struggling to come up with prompts! From the “Welcome to Blaugust Week” (which might bring in more people to the Blogosphere) to the “Introduce Yourself Week” (which helps us get to know ya) to other themed weeks, there are plenty of opportunities to find something to write about. Again, nothing’s a “must”. Everything’s a “can”.

On top of that, Belghast also created a list of prompts that may help you out with finding interesting topics. You can find that list over here!

Sign up now!

As I mentioned before, it’s a fun event that got me into blogging and that made it possible for me to get to know so many amazing people that I’m incredibly grateful for… and if you want to participate in that as well, you can sign up for the event over here via this form!

All the important bits of information that I didn’t mention here can be found in Belghast’s post. Again, check it out if you haven’t yet! On top of that, joining the discord doesn’t harm. In fact, if you have any questions you wanna ask, that’s probably the best place to visit!

Personal Goals:

This time around, as mentioned before, I want to challenge myself again by writing as many reviews as possible! I’ve already been blogging daily for quite a while, so pushing myself a bit further to test my limits like this is gonna be pretty darn amazing and I’m looking forward to it. More than anything, I’m quite excited to meet new people. I also want to get a D&D OneShot going at some point during Blaugust if the stars align – timezones will probably be the hardest factor in all of this. I’ll probably publish another post detailing what exactly I want to accomplish during Blaugust this year. “As many reviews as possible” is a bit vague, innit? So, what I mean by that and what exactly I want to do better is something I’ll write out in detail (heh) soon-ish before Blaugust starts off.

  1. I remember you asking me once if I was going to participate in this. At that time I said no. Nowadays I can sometimes see myself participating, but not promoting it like I am if you know what I mean. Just blogging about whatever topics pop into my head during August since unfortunately, my blog is not my full-time job so I can never do 31 days in a row.
