Lately, I’ve been sleeping alright.
I’ve been struggling for ages with my sleep schedule but as of late, I’ve been going to sleep around 9 or 10 PM and waking up at 4 or 5 AM. Last night, I went to sleep at midnight but I still woke up around 7 AM today. It’s honestly refreshing to have a bit of buffer. If I do need more sleep, I can sleep a bit longer but usually, I end up waking up around 4 or 5 in the morning… and that’s a good thing.
Waking up and Getting up are two different things.
Waking up just means that you’re awake but it’s the “getting up” and the “not falling asleep again for ‘five more minutes’ ” things that are the hard parts of the morning routine for me.
Part of this may be due to me being stressed out or sleep quality being low or depression episodes or other reasons… but lately, I’ve been getting up once I’m awake.
I’ve also not been drinking as much coffee really… I didn’t feel the need to in the morning and at times, I get myself a coffee around mid-day since I end up feeling tired around the early evening which becomes a hassle.
Either way, sleep quality has been an issue. I feel like I haven’t slept at all… but I’m not exactly tired or anything.
It’s just that over the day, I feel a bit more exhausted lately.
I think the core issue here is that the length of my sleep varies a lot. It also doesn’t help that I worry about blog posts first thing in the morning. I really will need to find a day to write two blog posts, so that I have “one in the can” as Naithin used to say, meaning I don’t have to worry even if I’m too tired to write on a specific day.
An observation I made was that I have an easier time falling asleep when my desk lamp is on. It’s odd. The lamp just feels cozy and I’ve had it for nearly a decade now, meaning that it sort of is something I’m attached to. I wonder if it’s nostalgia that makes it cozy or the fact that it’s yellow light. Either way, I may experiment a little with light sources that can be programmed to turn off themselves automatically… or maybe even better, I could grab one of those adapters for the outlet that turn themselves off automatically after a specific amount of time.
I don’t want to leave the light on over night, so, having that would mean that the light turns itself off eventually… I know it’s just a drop in the big ocean of climate issues but I guess not leaving it on all night will also extend this lamp’s lifespan.
Either way, my sleep quality has been alright and my sleep schedule has been consistent for quite a while. I may have to adjust it a little given that my parents stay up later than me now. When I visit them, I wanna spend more time with them, obviously…
I’ll figure something out.
Note: The header image for this post is from all the way back in 2020 when I first started to dabble with paint net again… and obviously, I’ve gotten better at drawing digitally over time but this one also has a bit of nostalgia to it if that makes sense. This could be a post of its own but dandelions are among my favourite flowers and it just makes me happy to see where I started in 2020 and where I’m at now with my drawing habits, in 2022.
