This one’s another late stray sheep here but I’ve been incredibly busy today with my studies as well as a little bit of trouble-shooting. Then I ate dinner with my better half… and even though it’s nearly midnight, I’m now still up writing a blog post after finishing the last of my assignments. Why?
Well, today I wanted to talk about motivation. What motivates me to write blog posts or to still continue the streak? What keeps me going when university studies seem to take ages with no end in sight?
To answer those questions, I may to start with something else entirely first: I believe that it’s incredibly hard to get started at times. One “trick” I have is to just get started and give it two minutes and usually that does the trick. If two minutes have passed and I still can’t find the motivation to do something, I end up doing something else first like reading or playing a quick round of some game like Vampire Survivors or whatever. Something that doesn’t take too long and then I try again. I know I need to get certain things done, so I try again. It’s less about wanting to do it and more about having to do it, which often ends up making motivation trickier. Hence, I believe that to it also is very important to think about why you do something. Question your motivation – or something. Before I get started, I end up asking myself: “Why am I doing this?” and usually, recalling that motivation or the reason for doing it gives me “determination” (btw, Undertale… anyone?).
That is kind of what motivation is about. What motivates me? For blog posts, in general, I enjoy reading blog posts and I’d imagine that someone enjoys reading my posts. For reviews, I enjoy Indie Games and I have a passion for them. I believe that others may find a game they may enjoy through my reviews. That brings me motivation. For assignments, I know that if I don’t do them, I’ll end up suffering later. The tomato sauce I didn’t rinse off yesterday will be incredibly hard to get rid off today. If I don’t do it today, it may be moldy tomorrow… I mean, not tomorrow but eventually, y’know? For my studies, I try to think back to all the shitty or just bad teachers I had… as well as the good ones. Then I think about what kinda teacher I want to be.
And that usually helps a lot? I believe that having a goal of sorts or knowing the reason as to why you’re doing something is important to keep motivation and morale up at times. Having a bad or unproductive day is totally fine. Not every day can be “good” but what’s important is to not get demotivated by that. It’s fine to struggle sometimes. Taking your to-do list apart and giving yourself some breathing room with more managable goals is probably the best way to turn “bad days” into small successes. And today was like that. I didn’t get to finish all of my goals and assignments but I managed to complete some of it. Tomorrow is another day. Tomorrow morning, I’ll get some coffee, eat some breakfast, and then I’ll sit down and complete the remaining assignments before university. Afterwards, I’ll take care of the studying that I need to do for those classes, maybe I’ll stream a bit, and then I’ll have my debate club meeting again.
Anyway, today’s post is just a bit of a filler because I frankly needed more time with my university studies. I enjoy blogging daily, which is why I still wrote a post. Sadly, though, I had to ommit writing another one the other day, meaning that I didn’t have a post scheduled for yesterday, so I wrote that one late at night and I went to sleep afterwards. Today’s the same. Tomorrow, I’ll try and maybe write a post in the morning after I finish my assignments – if I have enough time before university. Maybe I’ll finish part of it and write the rest after uni classes are over. It really depends. I’ll potentially be able to get two posts out on Wednesday, given that I only have one class then… and then I’ll have a post for that day and a post for the next ready, so that I can keep scheduling them forwards to set times instead of having to improvise on the same day and same evening. Hope you enjoyed this one. Have a nice one!
