What I’m hoping to see… (Speculation)
Playism has announced that there will be a collection of updates to PLAYISM’s iconic indie catalogue, including world premieres and release dates for various titles… and personally, I’m rather excited for a few titles.
For starters, HARUKA: Beyond the Stars has been on my wishlist for a fair bit and I’d love to hear some details about that game. It’s a “juvenile sci-fi RPG about the intergalactic adventures of the protagonist, Yuuki, and a mysterious girl named Miiya”. The game looks pretty adorable with its art style and the manga-inspired cutscenes, but I also am sorta excited to see what the combat’s gonna be like specifically as it appears to feature a mix of real-time movement and turn-based actions.
Add to that the super pretty art style and the fact that you get to travel to space and like… yeah, duh, I’m excited. It’s a cute JRPG with original characters, free of AI-generated bs, and it might offer a rather thrilling adventure whenever it comes out this year!
34EVERLAST, on the other hand, is a spectacle fighter that PLAYISM announced in 2023, with “super-concentrated action entertainment for busy working adults, in which one game loop can be as short as ten minutes and your discoveries and actions unravel a complex and intertwined world”, which feels very considerate and nice, honestly. Why, yes, I do love short gaming sessions that incite me to spend some time in between chores and tasks with a little something to treat myself, how did you know?
Furthermore, the folks over at Kanata Lab and HYPER REAL claim that 34EVERLAST is more than just an action game, though. Your choices affect the world in meaningful ways, transforming whole landscapes and changing the outcome of the story. There are puzzle game elements mixed into the very compact gameplay loop, which sounds like a rather interesting premise. Add to that 30+ routes, as well as one final true ending, for players to discover. I’m stoked!
And then there’s MaguSphere – Magical Cannon Girls, which is a Mousou-style Third-Person Shooter developed by OHBADO (for the past ten or so years, mind you), where you take on the role of a cute anime girl with a stupidly powered “Magical Cannon”. It’s a magical girl game! But with guns! Yay!
Okay, as silly as it sounds, I’ve been itching for games like this that are just silly and fun and mousou games are notorious for allowing you to turn off your brain mid-mission, which is cool. But I also love the idea of “protecting the city” while also being able to completely level the cityscape, just like in one of my favourite games, Earth Defence Force 4.1! It looks adorable, action-heavy and very silly.
With that said, it’s not guaranteed that we’ll hear anything about these three games or anything. For what it’s worth, PLAYISM always manages to surprise us with new announcements, like they did back in 2023 when I was expecting news on some already-announced titles and instead was surprised to hear about Metal Bringer, for the first time, which I later ended up spending way too much time customizing mechs in…
But still, I’d love to hear about these three titles in particular… Especially MaguSphere!
