Blaugust 2022 – Lessons Learned

Well, here we are. It’s the end of 2022’s Blaugust and thus, I wanted to reflect on this month and talk about things that went as planned and things that didn’t go as planned and stuff.

For starters, my goals – I wanted…

  • to write 31 reviews in 31 days + some extra posts based on themes
  • to keep my paragraphs relatively short and thus, my posts readable.
  • to host a DnD/TTRPG one-shot with people or play a game with others.
  • to hit 3k views for once.
  • to read a lot of posts/catch up on the weekend.

Overall, some of these goals came to fruition while others didn’t. This month, we actually hit 4k views which is HUGE.

This could quite possibly be because of the improved paragraph length and stuff but maybe this month just has been good. Either way, it’s a big month in terms of stats, I guess.

The DnD/TTRPG one-shot didn’t happen given that we didn’t have enough people that were interested in it. Sadly, that’s just the way it goes.

But I only managed to publish four reviews as well as one “First Impressions” post.

Apart from that, I didn’t manage to read many posts at all, actually. I’ve just been too busy.

…and being too busy is natural. I had eleven exams in these past few weeks and it has been nerve-wracking. Hence, I wasn’t able to keep up with 31 reviews, even though I was able to play the games on Stream and create drafts with my notes as planned.

I guess I’ll just have to publish a lot of them in the next few months, although some of them will have to wait until I’m done with the interview posts… and until I’m back home. I plan on visiting my parents for a few days next week probably, although that will heavily depend on when I get done with some of the things here as well as when they’re free.

Anyway, over the course of 31 days, I managed to published 32 posts (including this one), of which four have been reviews. I didn’t get to read as many posts as I originally wanted to but I plan on catching up once the Blaugust shenanigans have calmed down a little.

In terms of the “Blaugchievements”, I’ve completed all of them. Last night, actually, I still had to play a game with someone, so I hit up Krikket who tried out We Need To Go Deeper with me. I’ll probably play games later with Frosti and others if anyone still needs it.

While we’re at it, the most popular posts have been:

Among this month’s posts, these posts did the best although by a huge margin, haha:

So, overall, it has been a good yet busy month.

I tested my limits and failed at my personal goal of publishing a lot of reviews. I’ll try again at another time when I’m less busy and maybe it will work that time then?

Something I noticed though is that I may wanna branch out even more. I honestly really enjoyed people’s insights on some topics. Bhagpuss, in particular, has been a good inspiration as to why I should maybe consider doing a Playlist Monday or something like that – just like how Bhag writes about music at times or like how Belghast writes “Mixtape Monday” posts.

I feel like that could be fun…? And then I’d also get to write a review maybe weekly and publish other posts on a schedule. That would probably be the next step for me: Don’t post *more reviews* but rather post reviews *more regularly*. I feel like that could go quite well for me, although that’s a challenge for September, just to see if I can get four weekly reviews out… and then I’ll have to see if I can keep that up while doing university.

Overall, this has been a fun month, for sure, though. It’s been great to see so many new faces and to learn from others. More than anything I’m excited to check out all the blog posts that I couldn’t read so far, possibly on my train ride next week!

  1. 🙂 Congratulations on completing your Blaugust challenge.

I also completed a blogging challenge of my own; which was publishing a blog post every day for the month of August (It is similar to Blaugust).

Blaugust had rules that I did not want to follow. For example, I did not want to use the Blaugust banner and I blatantly refused to publish an introductory blog post because I have a well-detailed “About” page on my blog.

So, I did my own thing.

I pulled topics out of the air like a magician and wrote about them.
