Happy Holidays! – Also, some Mental Health Resources and Tools

I wish y’all happy holidays. I don’t celebrate Christmas personally, nor does my family, but if you’re out there and celebrating it or you’re taking part in any gift-giving and Secret Santa shenanigans and all of that… I hope you have fun and I hope you have an amazing time!

It’s that time of the year again, and I just wanted to link to a bunch of mental health resources because it can be quite draining to visit family or to have to see people that you don’t see too often.

Mental Health Resources and Tools – by TakeThis

This source over here links to emergency resources and non-emergency resources. Depending on where you live, it can be hard to find the right number to call for immediate intervention, so this one’s quite helpful to search for the right helpline.

On top of that, there are also non-emergency resources here, like Therapist Directories, Online Therapy Resources, Online Harassment Support, as well as Self-Care Tools and Resources for Streamers and Content Creators.

I mention the latter as TakeThis does do a lot of work to also spread awareness on how to deal with situations where you as a streamer or content creator could face a cry for help. I talked about that in my “Addendum” post on “Trauma Dumping” (still hate the term), too.

Anyway, I once really, really needed this one when something bad happened back at home and I basically just had to leave my parents’ place for a bit, so I went on a walk, looked for a number right here, and then called them, talked about things, and it really helped. Later, a few years ago actually, I had a really dark and heavy phase where I struggled a lot mentally… I was quite close actually to ending it all… but finding the number for the “Telefon Seelsorge” on this page also helped me quite a bit. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for that.

Mental Health Checkpoint – by giowrs

This resource over here is quite nice as it is built like a conversation of sorts. You essentially answer questions and get some tips on how to deal with certain things. While it doesn’t feature as many resources as TakeThis’ Resources page, I really like how there are breathing techniques and little tips in this resource, although they also put a disclaimer in there that they’re not a medical professional.

So, breathing techniques, meditation, stuff like that…

I needed to make use of this resource once when I had a really bad panic attack and wasn’t able to breathe at all… and it helped. I calmed down relatively quickly after making use of it.

Appreciating Life

This resource is another carrd page but I wanted to link to it as it also offers guidelines and resources on how to offer help to others and how to talk about it, and even a very great article on dos and don’ts!

At last,…

I’ll be away over the holidays and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to respond immediately whenever I get messaged. If you need someone to talk to, I’ll try to be there but I can’t guarantee it… hence, why I linked to resources.

I’ll most likely be back around the 6th of January or so…

Until then, I wish you a great time during your break. I hope everything works out well. I hope it’s not too anxiety-inducing and not too stressful…

Hope you have a great start into the new year! 2023 will rock – because you’re here with us. So take care of yourself, okay?
